SpitShine is a short film produced at Kent State University by a team of emerging
filmmakers with a strong background in production design, practical craft, and mixed media
storytelling.
Spitshine takes place in a dark wasteland, where two scavengers duel by bartering their esoteric findings at the local Trade Pit, where value means survival.
This is a story that highlights the relationship between physical items, their producers, and their consumers. Spitshine tells of the ever-shifting landscape of value and commodity, touching on the role of art and pragmatism in a capitalistic economy setting.
In a modern world where life and work can exist solely in a digital landscape, it's important to emphasize the importance of balance, expression, and human connection. In conjunction with themes of isolation and addiction, Spitshine also explores the relationship between the physical world, and the abstractions that our minds make of it.
We aim to tell an intriguing and morally complex story using the many skills and
connections that we’ve accumulated throughout the course of our education. With a uniquely
strong art department, our team is equipped to build an original world that is tactile, imaginative,
and grounded in thoughtful detail.

With some very successful production days behind us, we're currently starting our post-production process. We've begun sorting through footage, editing, VFX, and experimenting with sound effects, ambience, and music choices.

Spitshine is slated to finish Post-Production by July 2026. We'll have an exclusive online screening available to donors, and once we complete our festival run, we'll share where you can watch the finished film online.
